OBJECTIVES

The undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics aim to focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of dental defects, including caries affecting different hard tissues, wasting diseases of the teeth, pulpal and periapical conditions, and post-endodontic rehabilitation. Special attention is given to restoring the form, function, and aesthetics of teeth.

The department places high importance on infection control in dental practice, incorporating curriculum elements on infection sources and both general and specific measures for controlling bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. This ensures that students understand and apply rigorous infection control practices in their future careers.

Before entering the clinical setting, students are divided into small groups to facilitate microteaching and are thoroughly trained in preclinical exercises. Case histories are discussed in depth, and comprehensive treatment plans are developed, promoting patient-centered, active learning for students.

The department is equipped with audiovisual tools, computer-assisted learning aids, and internet access in the central library to support academic training. Students are encouraged to attain a basic level of computer proficiency to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.

Research participation is strongly encouraged, with opportunities for students to engage in research projects and electives, fostering interdisciplinary research to integrate various dental specialties. The department’s teaching and training approach motivates students to think critically and engage in self-directed learning.

Additionally, students are encouraged to attend state and national conferences, workshops, and seminars to broaden their knowledge and skills. Faculty members actively mentor students in their studies and presentations, supporting their participation in quality improvement programs and professional development activities.
